What's the difference between an Open and a Closed Inspection?

The National Safety Code Standard 13 requires a vehicle inspection to be completed on a commercial vehicle every twenty four (24) hours. ComplianceBox assigns a status to all inspections so that a driver has a clear understanding of which inspections they have completed are still "legal".

Status
Meaning
Open

  1. This inspection was completed within the previous 24 hours.
  2. This inspection is still legally valid for the vehicle to be operated.
  3. New defects may be added to the inspection.

Closed

  1. This inspection was completed more than 24 hours ago.
  2. This inspection is no longer valid for the vehicle to be operated. A new inspection is required to be performed.
  3. No further defects can be added to this inspection.
